Name: Steve Price
Country: UK
Age: 59!!!!
Name (and link if present) of your website/magazine/radio: ARfm (www.arfm.co.uk)
Position in your website/magazine/radio: Program Director / Presenter
Online since (year when your website went online): 2004
Introduce you as editor and your website/radio with a little bio (year
and how you started to write reviews, possible previous versions and/or name of
the website, more you want do add): I've been doing radio shows since 1983, on and off.
In 2003 I was taken on to do a rock show on a station called CMRPulse which
subsequently went bankrupt. I was then approached by Chilton Broadcast who has
leased all the studio equipment to CMRPulse to see if I wanted to run a
24/7/365 Rock station.....so ARfm was born!
Favorite rock sytles (AOR, Melodic Rock, Hard-Rock, Westcoast, Glam,
Sleaze or so on): Melodic
Rock, Hard Rock, AOR
Other music styles you like: Classical
"THE" band / artist that fully embraces your tastes in music: Impossible so I need two – Whitesnake & Giant!
Your personal TOP 5 of all times: Deep Purple – Burn, Giant – Last Of The Runaways, Bad English – S/T, Diving For Pearls – S/T, Whitesnake – Lovehunter
Your personal FLOP 5 of all times: Can't think of any to be honest!
Your biggest delusion in music (a crap album, a missed interview, a bad
concert you've attended, etc): The general state of the music business.
Your highest point reached in music (a long awaited interview, a meeting
with one of your idols, results reached with your website, etc): Face to face Interviews with David
Coverdale, Jon Lord,Ronnie James Dio and having Styx in the ARfm studio. The positive response
ARfm has received from the industry, fans and bands/artists. On a personal
level, getting my producer Sue on to the ARfm team which I feel has revitalized
the Steve Price Rock Show and taken it to a higher level. Teaming up with
Firefest to bring fans the best possible festival ever. Meeting my radio hero,
Tommy Vance, at a very low point in my radio career and letting him convince me
to carry on.
Your most successful / favorite review/interview: David Coverdale 3 hour special!
Your bitter regret about one of your reviews / interviews: Not interviewing Richie
Blackmore...the only member of Deep Purple I have never spoken to!
Your 5 most promising acts / artists of the "new" generation: ? Vega, Work Of Art, Serpentine, The
Magnificent, H.E.A.T.
Your vision for the next years about the music biz of our music styles
(possible death of the cd format, thoughts about digital releases, evolution of
rock labels, etc.): More
artists will take the self release route as the CD format struggles to survive.
Your personal suggestions for today's labels and artists: I would like to see labels offering
more tour/gig support. I know this is hard in the current climate but I feel
with the right packages of bands it could be acheivable.
Anything you want to add: Melodic Rock and AOR will never die!
